Beginnings and Some Thoughts

The weekend has passed quickly. Going to start my first internship for this summer tomorrow at my bank. Barely had gotten any rest since I returned from the US. Excited about starting a new path tomorrow but a little apprehensive too.

Had a good weekend on the overall. Spent time with my family and got to see my grandma yesterday. Also went to Laguna for supper with my parents and sister yesterday late at night. Needless to say, it was nice to visit Pat again and have some quiet time.

Pretty packed day today, sending my sister to and from her classes, as well as bringing her out for lunch at her favorite chicken rice outlet in Toa Payoh. Came home for a short while and then went to visit Pat's family with Weilin. It was good to see them again and hear the updates on their lives. Hope uncle and auntie get well soon from their cough/flu.

Dinner was decent fare at Pasta Fresca; the food was marginally alright but their tiramisu was pretty good. Apart from the the ah beng waiters rendering sub-standard service, it was a pretty good meal.

Maybe it's the exhaustion setting in a little, either from the long flight home or the long semester which had just concluded less than a week ago. Kicking up lots of dust and memories to bomb my mind. Going to go to bed and lie down. Hopefully it'll all clear out of my head soon.

Stop caring. Stop caring. Stop caring Wilson.

Home@SG

Hey peeps, I'm finally home. After being in the air for approximately 21 hours, finally got back in Singapore at 1:30am yesterday. Many many grateful thanks to my parents for heading to Changi Airport to pick me up so late at night. Mom and dad are the best!

Had a spend quite a fair bit of time sorting out the administrative stuff on how to go about planning my "route" today. Have a jam packed day all the way until 3pm when I head to sign my second internship contract. Still have to prepare a ton of paper work prior to that and before I start work on Monday.

Also, got the disappointing grade for OMS311. Totally got murdered with a B+. Damn. =( I'm still amazed at how I managed to screw up that class. Anyways, lots of work to be done today. Hopefully things will start to look up a little and that the rest of my grades would be a little better.

For any of my pals who still read this blog, give me a buzz this weekend if you want to hang out yeah? Until then, peace out.

End of our Junior Year and the Section Party!

First and foremost, let me state that I'm in a pretty tipsy state right now. An alcohol induced stupor from the 4 cups of beer and 3 cups of jungle juice which I had to chug courtesy of my wonderful pals from Section 002. Just got back from my section party held at a frat house which one of my classmates is staying at. Good times getting to chat and see everyone go nuts in a social setting.

Anyways, it's finally over. The end of the academic year, the end of the exams which I have been dreading. Haha... Feeling rather nostalgic; it's been a really crazy two semesters in the business school but I can't stop counting my lucky stars for having had the opportunity to pursue my education here in Michigan. Times are tough, classes are intense, but the things which we learn are really enjoyable. The countless hours which we burnt in Kresge Library on weekends will definitely bring us fond memories of our BBA Junior year.

As the "OM Love Triangle", the homo-icus, the arbitrage pricing theories, the VB codes, the statistical testing methods all fly through my mind in a blitz, I can proudly say that I have really enjoyed every single moment of my BBA Junior year. Every drop of blood, sweat and tears was well spent. While results are important, I think the friends which I've found, the learning process at the business school, is something which is beyond pure academics alone.

To my awesome section (section 2) and to the BBA Class of 2008, thank you and GO BLUE! You are all leaders and the best.

F**king Unamused

I AM F**KING UNAMUSED WITH THAT DARN OMS 301 EXAM. What the heck was that all about? I was so prepared for it and they pulled some funny shit out of no where. Damn pissed. Probably left 60 points totally blank. Not amused AT ALL.

Brief Timeout and the Final Lap

I went kayaking in Huron River today! Finally got down to doing it. It was warm and sunny today, probably around 15 degrees out. Decided to move my butt and went kayaking at Gallup Park. They drove me upstream to Argo Park and from there, I paddled down the beautiful river back to Gallup. It was really nice and peaceful out on the river, seeing the clear water, the ducks swimming around, the fallen trees. Passed under bridges, through the Arb, past river-side houses. I liked the tall, brown and leaf-less trees lining the river; looks almost like fall rather than spring due to the freak snow storms in late March. Anyways, wish fulfilled and definitely helped bring my spirits back up again.

Had a bummer OMS311 exam yesterday. Screwed up really bad in it. Darn and I don't even know how I managed to mess that up. Get it straight, I'm decent at ops management. In fact, I'm good at OMS. Pretty damn good at it and somehow... Argh, what a fluke.

Ah well, nothing can be done about it now. Another 2 exams, a section 2 party (Hell yeah!!! Section 2!!!) and then it'll be time to head home. All this in less than a week. Just another 5 days from now, I'll be back in Singapore, running through the streets in the warm night and starting my hectic summer. Excited but can't say that I'm exactly thrilled about the 4 months of madness waiting for me.

At the Union right now plowing through my OMS301 notes. Grabbed dinner out with Anny and Ariel at Qdoba. I think I'll stick to my favorite Chitpole's. It's way better. Whole Foods is a pretty cool place and the stuff there looks really fresh and appetizing. The cake the girls bought for their apartment mate's birthday was hrm... interesting. Enough ranting, back to books.

See you folks in Singapore next week.

Peace.
Wilson

Last Day of Class

Today was the last day of class. Had an in-class exam for Finance 310 and I think everyone got murdered pretty bad on it. Just hope I did good enough to get me at least an A.

On a lighter note, Michael and Allison did a duet of "A Whole New World" at the end of OMS301 class today. Haha... Allison totally killed the song. It was funny as hell though. Damn I'm missing classes already. Sad that the school term is coming to an end already. It has been a hell of a semester; the work was just ridiculous but I think everyone had a ton of fun working on all the projects and homeworks together. Spending crazy whole weekends or 10 hours at a go in meetings in Kresge was probably our idea of fun. Haha. Good times...

Did my last BIT311 homework which was disappointingly easy; the coding took me a total of probably 15 minutes to finish. Bleah. No satisfaction at all from that.

OMS311 exam on Thursday. Fun and super tough stuff. =) Damn I'm tired. Back to cramming.

Time now: 1:15am
Location: Kresge Library in the Business School

A Few Words...

I know I rarely do this anymore. For those of you who hate reading this stuff, don't read it. Just wanted to get some stuff off my mind so that I can think a little more clearly.

Dar, how're u? It's Sunday, April 15th, 2007. 92 months; would have been nice wouldn't it? Lots of things on my mind. I haven't forgotten you my dear. You're still always in my heart; every little part of you. =)

Heard some upsetting news recently from one of my friends. I know how hard it is; I know how difficult it was for you. Please don't let them go through the same pain too okay? I hope all will be well, and above all, I hope that everyone will have good health and happiness, always. Especially the people who I love and care for, please watch over them and keep them safe ya?

Been dreaming quite a bit lately. Can't seem to stop caring sometimes. Probably a strength at times, but also one of my biggest flaws. Anyways, I probably should get back to my books. I miss you loads. Hope you're at peace and happy.

Thanks for listening dar. You're the best.

Loving and missing you always,
Wilson

What Does It Take?

4am, cold Michigan morning. Should probably be in bed right now but just got a huge load on my mind.

What does it actually take, or how much, does it actually take for people to realize how precious life is? Does it have to come down to the crunch before one will take family, love and life seriously?

Miss you...

Relief and the Looming Battles Ahead

Hey people, how's it going? Here's some updates: Exams are looming round the corner, with my first paper starting on Tuesday (in-class final) and then Thursday and the following Monday and Tuesday. Going to be one heck of a cramming / number crunching / process flow analysis swallowing / theory eating period. Fun times. As for the huge sigh of relief, I'm pretty set for the summer. I'm going to be doing two internships the entire summer, with a 2 week break in between. It'll be heck of a busy and tiring summer but I do hope the experience will be worth it.

Been thinking about lots of stuff lately. What does it actually take...?

To those who are fighting their own tough battles, my thoughts are with you. 加油 and stay strong. Life can be quite a bi***h sometimes, just have to deal with it as best as you can I guess... Well, do take care.

The semester is coming to an end soon. Projects are almost done (less one OMS311 project report which I'm going to finish with my group later today) and then the exams are going to kick in. Already missing the "fun" 10 hour group meetings which I have every weekend.

Anyways, off to lunch, meetings and then prep for the exams. Good luck everyone.

Take care.

Best wishes,
Wilson

Laptop is Alive Again

Finally my laptop is back and working again. Had to change the motherboard. Good thing it was under warranty. Pretty tired after a long day in school. Time for bed soon. Nite people...

Sunday Night @ the B-school

The b-school basement computing site is pretty deserted now. Not many people using the computers here at this hour.

Pretty uneventful day. Practically spent the entire day at the b-school. Meetings after meetings as usual. Fun times.

Dinner at Lao Di Fang with John, Adhi, Lenny and Aaron. Decent asian fare. Went home for a short break, watched the Apprentice and then headed back here to get more work done. Speaking of the Apprentice, JEEZE. How shitty can those guys get? Screwing up on a 5 presentation in front of Donald Trump on national TV. It's so bad I think any of my classmates will kick their butts upside down. It was that bad. Go watch it man, the second last episode of Apprentice LA.

Okay, going to do some more work and then probably will head home. Got to bring my laptop to the repair centre bright and early tomorrow before my class starts.

Congrats to Pat's parents and sister on their baptism. Dar, you must be really proud ya?

Good night people...

A little tired,
Wilson

Dead Laptop

Hey everyone.

As you can see, my laptop is dead (again). This time round, its a problem which has struck almost all other IBM T42s which were bought at the same time as mine, the death of the video card. My friend here in Michigan was just warning me last week that all of their video cards have gone bust and my turn will come soon. Whatever it is, it's still covered under warranty (thankfully). The only problem is that it's a pain in the ass not having the laptop available to do all the work which is waiting for me. As such, I have become the new permanent resident of the business school library. Argh...

That aside, slept in today for once. Went to grab brunch with my apartment mates at Angelo's. The queue was crazy as usual. The rest of my day was spent dutifully coding on Excel VBA in the library and catching up on readings. Was almost sad to have finished coding so quickly. Haha... Weird how I have come halfway around the world, hating coding back in NUS on C++ but here I am having an awful lot of fun kicking other people's asses in coding VBA.

By the way, it's snowing outside. Not just flurries, its heavy snow; huge snowflakes. It's freaking April dude, give it a break! Damn and people say it's spring.

Will probably grab a quick dinner with Aaron and Lenny and the rest before relocating to some other place to continue studying (yes on a Saturday night). The b-school closes at 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Drat...

Anyways, a few more weeks and exams will be here and soon, over. Not sure if I'm looking forward to that at all. Having too much fun studying.

Well, see everyone in Singapore at the end of the month. Until then, take care and for my pals in Michigan, stay warm!

Swamped

Swamped with work. Presentations, project reports, homeworks, case studies, and the other million and one things to deal with. Fun in a pretty twisted way.

Just kinda tired though (literally). Need some sleep. *yawns* Spending more than 12 hours everyday in the b-school sounds pretty exciting doesn't it? Hahaha... Okay, time to get more work done. School's gonna be over in less than a month. Darn, I'm having so much fun I don't want it to stop.

Btw, you guys remember the Banff Mountain Festival which I told you about some time ago? Here's a clip, and I wasn't lying about the mad stuff they did. See it for yourself!

Maybe I'll blog more this weekend if I can, or later this week (earliest Thursday night at best). If not, take care and welcome spring!

P.S. Damn it's gonna snow tomorrow. What's up with the weather...

What's on my mind?

Went to the SEA cultural night just now. Decent food and performances. Good job by the committee. Got woken up bright and early today and starting doing work since morning; had meetings running the whole day till 5pm.

Kind of tired out from the long day (and the fact that it's now 3am doesn't help). Passed out for some time just now when I came home from the event. (Oh crap, a thunderstorm is underway outside.) I would attempt to go to sleep but my brain is running on over-drive and trying to get to sleep would be a pointless exercise. Might as well get some work done huh.

Don't really have much to say. A million and one things running through my mind. 好像好久以前了。。。

有时候,还真的好想念你。
